Robots December 21, 2005

Robots was a disappointment. It was fun, sure… eye-cotton-candy. But where I looked for wonder, all I found was cleverness. The best gosh-wow sequence was the Rube Goldberg roller coaster that passed for a public transport system — until it began to strain credulity.

It seems that the deepest question the writers/producers of Robots asked themselves was, How would artificially-intelligent machines replicate our society? They never asked themselves, why would they want to? Or, what would a society of intelligent and emotional androids REALLY look like?

Instead, all we got was a bunch of stereotypes dressed up in robot costumes.
